Jack was the owner and operator of J & H Coal Company until his retirement in 1980. He assisted in construction of Jacob's Well, House of Prayer. He was King Fireman of the Preston County Buckwheat Festival in 1958, and was voted Outstanding Alumnus of Valley High School in 1987. He enjoyed square dancing and woodworking.
