John C. moved to New Mexico prior to 1889. He along with one of his brothers purchased a ranch in the Guadalupe mountains of New Mexico.His brothers who moved with him were probably Hillman and Victor. Wheather his parents moved with him or at a later iime is unknown His Father Elias died in Queen Mew Mexico in 1900, and is buried there.

US Census of 1900 have John and Ella living in Eddy County, New Mexico. Living with them are his mother Martha J. His sister Mary, and a Josie C. Queen (Daughter of John and Ella.)


John C. had water on his ranch which was needed by the close by town,he supplied water for the town provided it was named "Queen," NM. The town of Queen was established by J.W. Tulk John C.'s brother Hillman, married J.W. Tulk's daughter Abby, in Queen New Mexico.
