    The author reports that his source was a microfilmed copy of the original records found in Abingdon, Virginia. (These records appear to consist of a book held at the Washington County courthouse. The book is titled Civil War Records 1861-65 Washington County, Virginia. It is about 16" by 18" with slightly yellowed pages, and slightly faded ink. Several entries contain comments about an individual's location in 1913 suggesting perhaps the volume dates to this timeframe. It may have been prepared in preparation for a 50 year anniversary held in 1915).

    John is the head of the household at age 65. He states that his birthday is SEP 1834 and that he is a widower. Robert R. is still living at home with John, his age is 21 and date of birth JUN 1879. Also in the house is William J. EDMONDSON, age 33 (MAY 1867) married to Polly T, age 28 (MAY 1872). According to the census they have been married for 5 years, that would put the wedding date about 1895.

    The head of the household is PRESTON Robert R (30). Also, in the house is his wife, Annie M (29) and a daughter, *vy*n S. (under 2). Robert's father John is living with them listed as 76. Robert and Annie claim that this is their first marriage and that they have been married for 4 years. They also state that they have had 2 children but only one is living. Robert is listed as a physician.
