PERRY, John Sr., [died] Feb. 8, 1839, a. 79 y. 6 m. [Birth about Aug. 1759]
- Hinsdale, Mass. p. 89 gives the death of Tablitha Perry on 13 Oct 1821, a. 62, citing church record. Then it gives the death of Dorcas Perry on 13 Oct 1822, a. 62, citing the gravestone. Both are described as the wife of John. Then he marries widow Irene (Day) Judd 1 Jan 1823.
The Find A Grave memorial for Dorcas has no image and cites the Hinsdale VRs, so appears to be simply a repetition, and offers no help figuring this out.
It seems unlikely that John Perry would have two wives die exactly one year apart, rather, until more conclusive evidence can be produced, that there is some recording error, and the record of a wife Dorcas is some form of corruption of the death record for his wife Tabitha, whose existence is verified by a marriage record and the birth records of six children.
