    "… John Patterson of Farmington, b. 14 Feb., 1708, at Weathersfield, son of James Patterson of Weathersfield, probably born in Dumfress, Scotland, who for his second wife m. 30 Nov., 1704, Mrs. Mary Talcot of Weathersfield. After the death of his mother, who d. 28 Sept., 1712, he accompanied his father to Farmington. He m. 28 Jan., 1731, Ruth Bird, daughter of Joseph Bird and Mary Steele of Northington; was in 1746, appointed an officer tor the French war. He rose to the rank of major, and d. 6 Sept., 1762, at Havanna, of the yellow fever."
