From a biography of son Richard, quoted on his Find A Grave memorial: "Richard Thomas Morrow was the grandson of Texas Ranger Thomas Morrow. Thomas Morrow died of breakbone dengue fever while in charge of an East Texas fort. This left his seven-year old son John to be raised by his aunt Millie."
