Feb. 19, 1754; … John Mattoon participated in the resistance to Indian attacks and sometime after the second attack on Deerfield removed to Wallingford. He was living there when, as the eldest surviving son, he drew his father's share at Falltown (later Bernardston, Mass.). These shares were granted to those who had fought at the Falls Fight (Turners Falls) or to their survivors."
