"John Knowles. This man has no birth record located, and may be younger than Joshua-born after 1634. John Knowles is dead by December 1673. He is named in his father's will. He had at death two living sons and three daughters. Further research is required to locate his birth record."

Knowles, John, late of Fairfield, (grandson of John Cable), will dated Nov. 1, 1673, probated Dec. 18, 1673, mentioned his children John, Joshua, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Rebecca. Joshua a brother of testator was brought up by him as his child, legacies to Elizabeth Rogers, sister, and John Loom, a friend. Overseers Joshua Knowles, John Burr and Jehu Burr. Witness John Loom, page 71. Inventory taken Dec. 8, 1673, by Thomas Skidmore, Esbon Wakeman, and William Ward, and filed Dec. 18, 1673, page 71.

  4. The abstracts provided by Jacobus and by Mead differ regarding the testator's brother Joshua. Jacobus says that Joshua is raising testator's son as his own child. Mead says that testator brought up Joshua as his own child. Both could be correct, but the original will would have to be consulted to be sure. At any rate, John married about three years after Joshua's eventual wife was born.
