His grandfather, too, was born in Franklin township. He married and was the father of nine children, seven of whom are still living, the youngest of them being in the neighborhood of seventy years of age. John Kemerer devoted his entire life to farming, and four of his sons, John J., Jesse, Jacob and Jerry, owned adjoining farms, their property aggregating some thousand acres. Mr. Kemerer’s death occurred when he was at the advanced age of eighty-four years.

The pioneer ancestor of the American branch of the Kemerer family was Adam Kemerer, who emigrated from his native land, Germany. He was the father of a son, Adam Kemerer, who in turn was the father of a son, John Kemerer, who was born in the state of Pennsylvania, was a prominent farmer in his day, an instructor in the common schools, and who married Martha Smith, who bore him nine chileren, namely: Leah, married Reuben Huffman; Sarah, married Moses Bierer, Emma, married Hiram Riblett; Josiah, mentioned hereinafter; John P., a resident of Export, where he is now (1905) living at the age of seventy-nine years; Henry, whose death occurred in 1865; Jacob W., a resident of Turtle Creek. Pennsylvania; Adam, a resident of Orange, Ohio; and Jeremiah, deceased. John Kemerer died at the age of eighty-four years.
