John Norris Housley was baptised on 14th February 1802 at Leverton in Lincolnshire, son of John and Sarah Housley.

By 1826 John had moved to Little Hale, eighteen miles west of Leverton.

On 5th October that year, aged 24, John married Mary Ward at Great Hale, just north of Little Hale. They settled in Great Hale after their marriage, having ten children born there between 1827 and 1844, although at least two died as infants. Another two sons would die in their early twenties.

The 1841 and 1851 censuses each find the family living at Mill Yard in Great Hale. John worked as a miller and baker.

Mary died in 1859, aged 53. John survived her by seven years. He died at Great Hale on 28th December 1866, aged 64.
