John H. Holmes, better known as Jack to all his. friends, was born in the vicinity of Elgin, Feb. 3, 1909, and died July q, 1936, at Burley, Ida., at the age of 27. His early childhood and schooldays were spent in and around Elgin and Neigh. In 1924 the family moved to Lincoln, where he attended Jackson High School. After leaving school he was employed by Western Union Telegraph company as a messenger, going from that to construction work. Since 1929 he was employed by the Abel Construction company On March 19, 1934, he married Gladys Arbogast at Council Bluffs, and to them was born a son, John Stewart Holmes.
