  11. 11.0 11.1 This is my anniversary. My father traveled from Buffalo to Cleveland on the first steamer that was run on Lake Erie, called Walk-in-the-Water. That was in 1818. He settled in Medina County, Ohio. I was born February 1820. My mother died when I was 9 years old; my father died when I was 15. Soon after I went to Columbus, and worked at the mathematical instrument business. In 1838 I returned to Michigan, and from there to Wisconsin, locating in Racine county.
