Obituary[2] 4 Jan 1951 AUGUSTA --- Brigadier General John Weston Healy, 64, one-time Somerset County Sheriff and former State Police Chief, died suddenly Wednesday morning at his home here, 115 Sewell Street. General Healy retired in 1944 after 41 years service with the National Guard. He saw service on the Mexican border in 1916 and commanded Company E., Skowhegan, in World War I. In World War II he was transferred to the Fifth Service Command in Florida, where he headed the internal security group.
Before coming to Augusta, General Healy was a Madison selectman and Sheriff of Somerset County. In Augusta, he was superintendent of buildings under Governor William Tudor Gardiner.
Until his death he served in the operations office of the adjutant general's office.
Surviving is his widow, Mrs. Leila Wyman Healy, Augusta; two sons, Major Richard W., Germany; Captain Robert M., Quantic, Va.; a daughter Mrs. Althea Chapman, Burlington, Vt.; two nephews, nine grandchildren.
General Healy was a native of Lexington Plantation, and was born there July 13, 1886, the son of Edgely and Florence Weston Healy. He belonged to the 43rd Infantry Division of the Veteran's Association; Euclid Lodge 194, F. and A. M., of Madison; DeMolay Commandry 10, Knights Templar, Skowhegan; Somerset Chapter 15, Skowhegan; and an honorary life member of Somerset Chapter, O. E. S.
General Healy organized and was first post commander of the Peters-Shortier American Legion Post of Skowhegan, and a member of the Fitzgerald-Cummings Post of Augusta.

    AUGUSTA---Mrs. John Healey of this city received a telegram today from her husband, now at Camp Blanding, Georgia, informing her that he had been promoted to a full Colonel. Col. Healey is a veteran of the First World War and has been in service in this War since the Maine troops were called into service in February 1941. He was with the 103rd during its stay at Camp Blanding, but was later transferred to the First Service Command and put in command of Destrict No. 5 of that Command, with headquarters at Blanding, where he is now on duty.
    Col. Healey commanded Co. E of Skowhegan, during the First World War and was mustered out a Camp Devens, in April of 1919, with that Command and rest of the Yankee Division. In 1926, he reorganized the Company, as a part of the 103rd Infantry of the Maine National Guard and remained as its Captain until 1931, when he was made Major in Command of the Second Battalion, of the 103rd. In 1940, he was made a Le. Col. of the Reg. which title has been his until his present promotion.
