He inherited the large farm and the "Brick Tavern" from his father who had inherited these holdings from his father. He kept up the tavern until a few years after the War of 1812. He sold his farm and purchased a farm below Bainbridge that belonged to Dr. Carpenter. He farmed there a few years, then moved to a large stone tavern built by Colonel Bertram Galbraith and located at the ferry at Bainbridge. Upon the completion of the Columbia and Philadelphia railroad, he was appointed by the canal commissioners as the weight master in Columbia. Soon after he moved to Columbia, he died suddenly.
