John,Mr., b. ab. 1651, s. of Wm. and Beatrice of Bentley, co. York, sent over ab. 1673 by his uncle Mr. Saml. Hall, form. of Sals., to Mr. Saml. Symonds of Ipsw., and soon fol. by br. Francis(1). John did not refund his passage money to his uncle; Francis did, and was rememb. in uncle's will. Waters i. 780-1. John m. bef. 8 Nov. 1677, perh. not in Me., Martha Mitton (Michael). He was of Ipsw. in 1678, and is noticed in Falm. only in June 1680, when he was gr. adm. on Michael and Nathl. Mitton's estates, sued Nathl. Masterson for defama., and witn. Geo. Felt's deed. Appar. gone the next month, poss. direct to Kittery, where he liv. on Champernowne's Isl. 1680-87. Recommended by Mr. Tyng in July 1686 as a marshal for the Prov.; Gr. j. 1687, 1688 (foreman). Lists 225a, 227. He depos. in July 1690, ±39, ab. Capt. Champernowne 14 yrs. bef. and money he had [p.283] engaged to pay Saml. Hall. His w. Martha was pd. £8 in 1682 from the money Mr. Hall left for relief of war sufferers. She d. in 1700 at Little Compton, R. I., where they remov. aft. 1690. List 225.
