"21. John3 Gilbert (Josiah,2 Thomas1), born at Wethersfield or Middletown, Conn., 'last week in March, 1689'; died at Middletown Nov. 17, 1769; … Little can be told of this John Gilbert. In her account of administration, Mrs. Mary Gilbert, second wife of Josiah Gilbert, brought in a charge against his estate for 'bringing up John Gilbert, son of the said Josiah from March 1689, last week, to the present April 1696/7, seven years.' When John Gilbert reached his majority, he was a resident of Middletown and had probably been such since the death of his father. On Mar. 28, 1710, John Gilbert of Middletown, son of Josiah Gilbert, formerly of Wethersfield, sold to Jonathan Belding and John Reynolds land in Divident Meadow. [Wethersfield Deeds, vol. 4, p. 27.]"
