SEDALIA, COLO. - John Joseph Gaughan, 94, died on Thursday, April 1, 2010.He was born in Verona, N.D., and grew up in South Dakota where he was a graduate of Huron College with a B.A. degree in Business. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 32 years of service. John was a Peninsula resident prior to moving to Colorado to be near his son.He was a member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a past member of the Exchange Club of Newport News and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Edith Gaughan of Colorado; two sons, Jack Gaughan (Michael Gill) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Earl M. Gaughan (Kathy) of Sedalia, Colo.; two grandchildren, Michael and Jesse Gaughan; one sister, Marvel York of Oceanside, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bill Lamont and the Rev. Nancy Hayes officiating.
