- ↑ Source:Davis, William T. Ancient Landmarks of Plymouth, Vol. 2, p. 107, appears to mix up the parentage of the various John Faunces. The children mentioned in the will are said to belong to John "son of 1st Thomas" b. 1678, while the John whose is born 1683, "son of 1st Joseph" is said to have married Abigail Bryant. Clearly, the precise age at death, combined with the will dates, show this is incorrect.
Davis also gives John a second wife, Ruth Sampson, that he couldn't have had, since first wife Lydia, d. 1738, so was clearly alive in 1733 when the marriage of Ruth Sampson to John Faunce Jr. of Plymouth occurred. The daughter Mary b. 1734 to that couple clearly does not belong to the John of this page, since his will indicates his daughter is Mary Curtis, presumably the Mary Faunce who m. 1744-5 Amos Curtis, at which time their daughter would only have been 10. That age doesn't stop Davis from attributing the 1734 Mary to him and also saying this same Mary m. Amos Curtis!
