    "9 John3 Eaton (John,2 John1), of Salisbury, m. Mary _____. He d. Jan. 17, 1717-8[S]. Will Jan. 15, April 9, 1717-8; wife Mary ment. John Eaton, Sen., adm. S. chh. Sep. 7, 1707."

[footnote, p. 1:148] "The presence of the name of (9)John3 on the list of 1680, p. 22, indicates that he was b. bef. 1660. The S. records of births of this family from 1646 to 1663 seem to be complete, and his name stands first in his father's will, in 1682. He was, probably, the oldest son; but the date of the birth of his youngest child [1710] indicates that he m., when forty years of age, a wife much younger than himself. He may have been away from S. in 1677-8, oath al. and fid., p. 21."
