↑ John's mother was admitted to the church in Charlestown 15 Aug 1680 (Source:Charlestown, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States. Records of the First Church in Charlestown, 1632-1789, p. 18) suggesting the baptism date was more indicative of opportunity than of recent birth. Based on John's marriage in 1698, we would expect him to be born by 1677 to be of legal age.
