NOTES ON EMIGRATION FROM NORTH CAROLINA TO MISSOURI The extended Durham family was in Sumner County, Tennessee by the early 1800's. "On April 26, 1834, John Durham sold the 26 acres in Sumner County, TN that he had inherited from his father's estate to his brother William Durham and moved his family to Washington County, Arkansas.
