Facts and Events
(From Gene Blair): Killed during Civil War (Watauga Democrat obit for Eunice Munday Dugger, 19 Apr. 1894). No record of a marriage. USNA has records of a John W. Dugger, enl. 27 Jun 1862 in Co. D, 58 N.C. Infantry. He was enlisted by D.C. Harman in Boone, Watauga Co., NC, and sworn in by John B. Palmer, of Palmer's 5th Batt'n N. C. Partisan Rangers, which was formed into the 58th Infantry. He entered as a Private and then served as a 2nd Corporal. There is record of his presence during the muster period 1 May to 31 Aug 1864. He did keep a diary, which has been published in the Watauga Democrat, Boone NC, on 2, 9, 16, and 23 July 1891, and republished in "Watauga Ancestry" in the Mar, Jun, and Sep 1994 issues. His last diary entry was on 3 Aug 1864, and presumably he was killed shortly thereafter. |
