Obituary from The Marion Star, Marion, Ohio, Wed., Jan. 30, 1946. Brother of Marion Woman Dies in Kenton John A. Derr of Kenton, at one time superintendent of the Hardin county home, died about 11:30 a.m. yesterday in his home after an illness of several weeks. He suffered from a kidney ailment. A native of Hardin county, he was a son of Davis J. Derr and Nancy J. Rice Derr. In 1900 he married Agnes S. Montgomery who survives. A retired farmer, he was engaged in farming before becoming superintendent of the county home, then returned to the farm following termination of his service as superintendent. Because of ill health he then left the farm and moved to Kenton. He and Mrs. Derr were superintendent and matron of the county home about six years, from the late 1920s until about the middle 1930s. he was a member of the Presbyterian church in Kenton and of the Moose Lodge. Survivors include the widow, two sons, Floyd Derr and Foster Derr, both of south of Kenton, two grandchildren, a brother, Elmer G. Derr, Cleveland attorney, and a sister, Mrs. Erwin Born of 195 North Seffner avenue. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Porter funeral home in Kenton and burial will be in Grove cemetery there. References
