From "Into This Fruitful Valley," "Audrey Journey married first Ralph Martin. He, along with John Davis, was killed in the summer of 1818 at a camp meeting at Shiloh in Gibson County. This is the present day Mt. Mariah Graveyard, a severe summer storm drove them to seek shelt under a tree which was struck by lightening. Family tradition doesn't tell us who were the preachers at that camp meeting, but they very possibly could have been the McGhee brothers, uncles of their wives. These two brothers of Margaret McGhee Journey were pioneer preachers and traveled about the country preaching. Family tradition does tell us that James Downey and George Harrison Williams took the bereaved widows home and later married them. No written history nor tradition mentions anyone else being injured at this tragedy."
