The second John Cory, the eldest son of John and Ann (Salmon) Cory was born in September, 1639 presumably at Southold, Long Island. This John worked as a farmer and a merchant. On 7 July 1663 he purchased land in Huntington, Long Island and was also granted land there in 1668, 1681, and 1682. His name appears frequently in the Huntington town records in various roles including clerk, arbitrator, and recorder. John married Mary Cornish, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Stone) Cornish in Stamford, Connecticut on 4 May 1649. Mary is said to have been born on 4 May 1649 in Exeter, New Hampshire. The children of John II and Mary Cory were: Mary, Abigail, Elizabeth, Martha, Elnathan, Thomas, and Abraham. He may have been a Quaker. John's will is dated 25 January 1686. His personal property at thse time of his death was valued at 82 pounds, 10 shillings. His wife, Mary married a second time to Mr. Sammis, the father-in-law of one of her daughters. She survived both husbands and died in Huntington, Long Island 1 December 1702.
