James Cook II (my Great, Great, Great Grandfather) was a native of Tenn, mar Jane Raines of Tenn. born in S. C. A Grandson, Stephen Thomas Cook was told that his Grandmother was a full blook Cherokee Indian., and that our Cooks were from Va. Mrs. Jane Raines Cook left her husband, James and moved her family to Ohio County, Ky, in the early 1830's, where she lived for many years was there in 18509 at time of the Census. Jane Raines Cook moved to Butler Co., Ky. and settled on Indian Camp Creek. Later, she lived with her children until she died in Butler Co., Ky, in the fall of 1868. She was a member of no Church but was a devout Christian.

Their Children were: 1.James Cook II,My Great Grandfather) born abt 1829, Tenn.,d. 1899 2.John McHenry Cook, born April 22, 1832, Ohio Co. Ky.; died July 1, 1919, 3. Adaline Cook, born 1831 4. Allen Cook, born abt 1836, Ohio Co., Ky. 5. Margaret Martha Cook, born abt 1838, Ohio co., Ky. 6. William Cook, born about 1846, Ohio Co., Ky. 7. Nebuchadnezzer Cook, born abt 1849, Ohio Co., Ky.

James Cook born 1829 married Rosanna Christmas, born 1829, Logan, Ken. and died April 10, 1907. Buried 1907 Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Rosanna Christmas Cook's parents were: JESSE CHRISTMAS & NANCY ANDERSON. JAMES COOK II & ROSANNA CHRISTMAS COOK'S children were: 1. VIRGIL COOK, died an infant 2.LOUIZA COOK, B. 1848 Aarnold Ohio, Ky. She married Preston Daughtery Jun 10 1864. 3. James Cook, born Feb. 14, 1850 Arnold, Ohio, Ken.married Martha Jane Vandiver Feb.10,1876. James diedJuly 11, 1924. 4. William C. Cook,born 1852 in Arnold Ohio, Ky. He married Christina GardnerJan. 19, 1871. 5. John McHenry Cook,(was named for the forner John McHenry Cook, who was his Uncle.

John McHenry Cook was born born Jan. 16, 1853 married Nov. 13, 1876 to Minerva Daughtery.. She was his first love, He met her at Church one Sunday and followed her home. Minerva & John McHenry Cook's children were: 1. Della 2. Ida 3. Etta Minerva died. John McHenry Cook married Ellen Downs #2 the 29 June 1892 at Van Buren, Mo. to Ellen Elizabeth Downs-Marshall, born in Canton, Mo. died at Willow Springs, 1 Jan. 1898. (My Daddy was 1 year, 9 months when their Mother died. (My Grandmother). Ellen Elizabeth Downs-Marshall, born in Canton, Mo.

John McHenry Cook & Ellen Downs Marshall Cook (My Grandparents) children were: I. WILEY HAROLD COOK (My Daddy) born 1896 in Willow Springs, Mo. Howell Co. died May 20, 1989 in Mexia, Texas. Wiley is buried in Mexia, Tex. Wiley served in World War I fought in the trenches in France and Germany, came home and eventually worked for a subsidiary of Standard Oil of New Jersey. He met Ruby Hudson (Gammill) Cook whose parents were Tom Hudson & Emma Elizabeth Gammill, (my other Grandparents) and married her and they had one Daughter, Helen Louise Cook born May 13, 1929 in Mexia, Texas. In 1950,Helen married Otho Donald Abercrombie in Mexia, Texas and they moved to Los Angeles, California for a year, came back and had Donald Carter Abercrombie & Donna Louise Abercrombie

2. JIM COOK also served in W. W. I. He married Maudie who had a Daughter Edith Mae Rhodes.

3. Allie Cook who married Everett Scovilll and lived in Guthrie, Oklahoma all of their married lives. Their only son, Harold Wiley Scovill lived a wonderful life and married Kathryn. Harold & Kathryn had two children: Bill Scovill & Judy Scovill

Ellen Downs Marshall Cook died when the Children were little and John McHenry Cook married Lola Culbertson Haskell, born Sept. 5, 1874. died May 24, 1959, Elgin, Illinois. She is buried in Willow Springs, Mo.at the Family Home farm. I remember going to her Funeral with my Daddy and my 2 year old Daughter, Donna. After the funeral, Daddy looked at me and said "are you afraid to drive in the dark?" I said "not at all" and Daddy (Wiley Harold Cook), my baby girl, Donna and I took off from Willow Springs, Mo.,Howell County to Dallas, Texas. Feb. 1903 John McHenry Cook and Lou's children were: 1. Clinton Cook married Gertie and they had two sons, Richard & 2. Edmond Cook married Bessie 3. Myrtle Cook married Lloyd Stuart and had three children, Bob, Margaret & Lloyd, Jr. 4. Bessie Cook married Lawrence Underhill They had no children. Aunt Bessie is still living. She is 92. My Granddaddy John McHenry Cook died on Feb. 20, 1937 when I was 7 years old. I remember going to the train station in Mexia, Texaswith my Daddy, Wiley Harold Cook to make arrangements to take the train to Willow Springs, Mo. for his Daddy's funeral. The train was the only way to go in 1937. It was February and the roads were pitiful in those days. The trains could always get through when cars couldn't in those days.

John McHenry Cook born in 1853 and the three wives are all buried on the Homestead in a cemetery "Family Cemetery" at Willow Springs, Missouri.

Any additions or corrections are welcomed by my Cousins. This information came from a book on my Family of the Cooks. However, we don't have anything before James Cook & Jane Raines. I would appreciate any help any of you can give me.
