from "History of Marion County, 1884" p. 788: J. S. CORNELL. (sic) This gentleman is a son of James H. and Malinda (Messick) Cornell, of Trimble County, Kentucky, in which State he was born May 2, 1839. He remained with his father till grown and was educated in the public schools, finishing his education at Georgetown College, lacking one year of graduating. In August, 1860, he married Miss Mollie Gray, daughter of Benjamin P. Gray, of Woodford county, Kentucky. Two children were born to them, both now living. His wife died in 1868. He afterward married Miss Mollie E. Hansbrough, daughter of Hamlet and Fannie (Graves) Hansbrough, of Fayette county, Kentucky, and has by this marriage one child, Frank (sic). His children by the first marriage are James and Samuel. In 1876 Mr. Cornell located in Marion county, where he has since resided, and engaged in farming and stock raising. He and his wife are prominent members of the Christian church. He was elected a magistrate in 1882. Esq. Cornell owns a nice farm of 100 acres, valued at $3,000. |
