Was a messenger of the Council in 1693. (Council Journal MSS).

Was a justice in King William county in 1713, and in 1723 was a memberof the Assembly from that county. He died that year.

His daughter, Eleanor, petitioned the Council "to stop the patent toHenry Chiles, or any other children of John Chiles, dec'd, in KingWilliam." (Spottsylvania records).

He received a land grant of 345 acres, in New Kent county, on October2, 1690. Again, in 1691, grant of 900 aces in same county, "in thefreshes of the York River above Mehixton." This part of the county was embraced in Hanover county when it was formed. The tract was purchased, September, 1744, by Mann Page from Henry Chiles, his son.(Hening, V, 278). Mann Page, son of Mathew and grandson of ColonelJohn, was a first cousin of John Chiles. In 1722 he was granted 300acres in King William county. According to this grant he was churchwarden of St. Margarett's Parish.

Left property to his two nieces, Olive Edwards Martin, the daughter of Susannah Chiles Martin, and to Mary Wright, the daughter of Jane Chiles Wright.
