My husband [John Campbell] was Scotch-Irish, and they pronounced their last name Camel... His explanation was "Spell it like soup, but pronounce it like cigarettes!" I use his pronunciation, too.
[In] 1945 . . . He was just out of the Navy (a full lieutenant on the USS Chester). John was a Dairy Science major at the U of Minnesota. He worked for Kraft Foods and Armour & Company in product development. He died suddenly of a heart attack February 21, 1978, in Phoenix, AZ.
