    "… John3 Caulkins, Jr., born July 1661, in Norwich, son of John2 and Sarah (Royce) Caulkins, and grandson of Hugh1 Caulkins. John Caulkins was one of the earliest settlers of Lebanon, Conn., and was the first constable of that town, chosen at its organization, May 31, 1698; he was also corporal of the first militia company there.

    His wife, Abigail Birchard, was living in January 1732, when John Calkins of Lebanon, deeded to his son Jeremiah Calkins, also of Lebanon, certain lands, reserving the use of the land and house during the 'life of me the said John Calkins and the natural life of my beloved wife Abigail Calkins.' (L. Rec. Lebanon, Conn.; Vol. 4, p. 383.) On Sept. 27, 1725, 'John Calkin ye first,' of Lebanon, Conn., deeded land to his son James (Land Rec. Norwich, Conn., 4-294), and on January 29, 1744/5, 'John Calkins of Phillips Parrish (Precinct ?) Dutches County, New York,' for £20, sold to son James Calkins of Norwich, Conn., all rights to any lands in Norwich, or Lebanon, not heretofore disposed of; the witnesses to the deed were John Calkin Junr and Jeremiah Calkin."
