    Will of "John Butler of Framingham ... Gent. ... being enlisted in an Expedition Against the common Enemy at Cape Bretton", dated [blank] March 1744, proved 20 Apr 1747, names wife Joannah; my Children. Decon John Addams to be executor.
    20 Apr 1747: Deacon John Adams refuses to accept the trust, at desire of Widow commit administration to David Eames of Framingham Husbandman, her son in law, intermarried with the only daughter of the Dec'd. Bond given the same date.
    22 May 1747: Inventory of mr John Butler late of Framingham: £783-11-0, by John Adams, Hezekiah Rice, Eben'r Goddard.
    Petition of David Eames of Framingham that John Butler was appointed Lieut'nt of a Company in Regiment of Samuel Waldo Esq'r, had a conmission, and served for a considerable time until his death and is entitled to a considerable time, believes Joanna his late Wife took that commission and other items and requests she be cited to appear. N.B. Petitioner is informed by widow that she delivered the commission into the hands of W'm Brintnal of Middleton, now of Framingham and prays he be cited.

    5 Oct 1747: Bond of Uriah Drury husbandman as guardian of Phineas (at his Election) a Minor in his fifteenth year of age son John Butler late of Framingham. Also bond for Joseph Butller a Minor in this thirteenth year.

  2. In David Eames' complaint against Joanna, he mentions that "Joanna his last Wife who attended upon him in his last Sickness and was with him at ye Time of his Death". Thus it seems likely that he died back in Framingham, even though the will was written in preparation for his participation in the Expedition against Fort Louisbourg, and the same complaint by David Eames said he "continued there in for a considerable Time and untill his Death". Probably "continued there in" refers to his duties, and not his location.
