"II John Burrows b. 1642 at Wethersfield, Conn., son of Robert1 Burrows and Mary Ireland. d. Feb. 12, 1716 at Groton, Conn. Buried there in Wightman Burying Grounds adjoining the site, now vacate, of the First Baptist Church. As of 1973 the grave is still marked by a large flat granite stone, crudely inscribed 'J B 74 died 1716.' Stones of this type were known as wolf stones, indicating their protection to graves from the ravages of wolves."
