Facts and Events
Samuel Bunding released 274 acres of land in Upper Makefield Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The land was 2 miles west of Baker's Ferry, later McConkey's Ferry where General George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware river on Christmas night 1775 to attack the Hessians at Trenton. His will provides that his wife, Alice, enjoy his whole estate and even after her marriage "if she marry an honest, frugal man who will raise my children". His two boys were to be bound to trades when 14 years of age and at the final distribution of his estate were to be given twice as much as each of his three daughters. Alice advertised the plantation for sale in 1775, but it was not sold. In his will he states in case his widow shall marry "a carefully, frugal man" she and her husband may enjoy the income from his estate until the youngest Burley child reach the age of fourteen.
