- Clue 1: there is a John Berryman in Estill County (supposed birthplace of this John) in the 1830 census. Could this be John's father? Needs further reearch.

Possible Middle Initial = S.
- Source: 1855 Estill County Birth Record for daughter Mary lists parents as "John S Berryman and Anzela Hall".
- Note: There was a "John S. Berryman" living in Woodford County in the 1850 census, but death records show that he died in 1855, so he could not have been this John.

Possible Middle Initial = W.
- Source: 1858 Estill County Birth Record for unnamed daughter lists parents as "J.W. Berryman and Miss Hall".

Status = UNKNOWN
- Clue 1: John Berryman is found living with his wife Arzela and 3 children in the 1860 census, but in the 1870 census, John is not living with his family. Arzela is the HOH at home with 4 children. What happened to John? Is he a Civil War casualty? Needs further research.
- Clue 2: In the 1880 census, Arzela is still living alone as HOH with son Green and a dau Sarah Belle born in abt 1873. If this John Berryman is the father of Sarah Belle, his death would have to have occurred aft abt 1872/73. Needs further research.
