Facts and Events
The baptism took place at Holmfirth, St David, a chapel of Almondbury, and the transcription has been listed by Ancestry under both the church and its chapel.
There is another slightly later baptismal entry at Holmfirth chapel:
- John, son of Thomas Beardsell of Holm (father: clothier) bapt 28 May 1780.
But John's wife, Mary, was also the daughter of a Thomas Beardsell (birthplace unknown). There might have been two Thomas Beardsells at this early period, but the second John would then have been considerably younger than his wife.
There is also the possibility that Mary's maiden name was not Beardsell, but there are no clues to lead in that direction.
