John Barker Passed Away Wednesday Long Weeks of Suffering Endured Before a Strong Constitution ___

John Barker, the father of Norman, George and Charles, all of Lake Odessa, died Wednesday after a year's illness.

For twenty-one days, we understand, Mr. Barker was unable to eat or drink anything. He was a great sufferer but patiend and enduring.

The funeral will be conducted by the Masons at the home Friday at two o'clock. Rev. A.L. Spafford will preach.

Three Sons Mourn Campbell Pioneer Suffered Many Weeks. Well Cared for by Sons. Masonic Funeral.

John Barker, whose death was announced last week was buried last Friday at Lake Side cemetery.

Mr. Barker was a resident of Campbell for 49 years and a resident of Lake Odessa about 10 years.

He had been ill for some time but was tenderly cared for by the families of his sons.

He being a pioneer was was well-acquainted with early privatations and inconveniences and like all early settlers enjoyed recalling the old days.

The funeral was held at the house Friday afternoon at two o'lock with Rev. A.L. Spafford officiating. Singing by Mrs. Bert Mourer and Schroll and burial at Lake Side cemetery. The Masons had charge of the services at the home and at the cemetery.

Relatives attending funeral from away were Mrs. Elmer Lee and son and Natalie Barker from Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. M.P. Hancock and son from Fowlerville, John Wortley from Chelsea, Mr. and Mrs. Wm Pardee and Mr. and Mrs. O. Pardee from Freeport, Mr. and Mrs. Vetter from Clarksville, Mrs. George McNaughton and Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Stadel from Grand Ledge.

Obituary John Barker was born near Chelsea in Sylvan township, Washtenaw county, May 13, 1847, and died at his home in Lake Odessa April 15, 1925, aged seventy-seven years, eleven months and two days.

He was united in marriage to Mary Wortley in 1871. To their union was born five children, Norman J., George C., Charles, Frank and Ernest D. Frank preceded him in death in 1907 and Ernest in 1917.

He came to Campbell township when a young man, living there nearly forty-nine years, then came to Lake Odessa where he spent the remainder of his years.

His wife passed away in 1886 and he was again united in marriage to Jane Spenser in 1889 who passed away one year ago, April 13, 1924. He was the last of eight children.

He leaves to mourn their loss three sons, Norman J., George C. and Charles, seven grandchildren, two great grand children, many relative and a host of friends.
