After his wife Sarah died in 1840 he appears to have been living with brother Thomas & Mary at Park House Farm (see 1841 Census). As he was a Maltster he may have been working at the Maltings which are in the village of Westwell next to St Marys Church. His sons George and Usher were also living at Park House Farm.. Notice in the London Gazette March 1834 John Back formerly of Westwell, in the County of Kent, Maltster , and late of Rye, in theCounty of Sussex, out of business.
