    His gravestone says he was born 1899.

  4.   His birth year is given variously as 1899 and 1900. He is not listed with his parents in the 1900 census, which was taken June 1900. Presumably someone else was looking after him. The census indicates that his mother had 10 children, 8 living, and 8 are listed, but possibly the question was misinterpreted as how many children were living with her.
