- ↑ In the distribution of his father's estate in 1767, John is the youngest son. His exact birth order vis-a-vis his siters is not known. Source:Waters, Henry F. Newhall Family of Lynn, Massachusetts, p. 52, documenting a lawsuit in 1749, lists the heirs of Hepzibah, including "John Alley, laborer" as the youngest son. Since he has an occupation listed, he is placed earlier than all the daughters except the oldest, but this is only speculative.
