On 5 April 1670, Thomas Terry of Block Island, yeoman, sold land on Block Island to John Acres of block Island. The land comprised 150 acres on Block Island, adjoining the land of Samuel Staple on the North, on the sea to the Southwest and joining to Mr. Phillip Wharton on the Southeast, except one acre or so to run East in the land of Thomas Terry. Thomas Terry signed the deed, with Lyman Ray and John Williams as witnesses ("Rhode Island Land Evidences, Volume I, 1648-1696, Abstracts," published by Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1970, page 23). On 30 October 1672, John Acres sold half a share of land that belonged to Edward Vose to John Williams for 12 pounds in sheep and cattle ("Rhode Island Land Evidences, Volume I, 1648-1696, Abstracts," published by Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1970, page 24). John Ackurs of Block Island died testate, having written a will dated 12 November 1698, which was proved 10 January 1698/9. The will mentions wife Margery Ackurs; daughters Margery Tosh, wife of Daniel Tosh, and Martha Cards, wife of Job Cards; Grandson Ackurs Tosh, son of daniel and Margery. The witnesses were Edward Ball, John Rose and Nathll Mott ("New Shoreham, Rhode Island Land Evidence," pages 307-308, abstracted by Nellie M.C.
