There is a John Schlotzer, b. abt. 1854, in 1880 census, policeman, in Buffalo with wife, Mary, and three kids, John, Grace and Olive. In fact, I find him through 1910 and his wife through 1920:

1. John G. Schlotzer, b. Feb. 1854; he dies between 1910-1920. I am fairly certain this is the son of John Schlotzer and Barbara Bickel, and therefore likely the nephew of "my" Hannah Schlotzer Betz. (I wish I could find the family of John and Barbara Schlotzer in 1860 and 1870 censuses.) The Mary that John G. Schlotzer married was born in NY October 1856. She dies between 1920-1930. He was a policeman in 1880; a grocer in 1900. Their children:

   - John A Schlotzer, b. Nov 1876 (only through 1900 census)
   - Grace E Schlotzer, b. Jan 1879 (through 1920 census)
   - Olive Schlotzer, b. abt. 1880 (in 1880 census only)
   - Ella / Lydia E Schlotzer, b. Mar 1882 or 1884 (Lydia in 1910; Ella in 1900, 1920; no sign after)
   - Harold G Schlotzer, b. Nov 1885 (through 1910 only)
   - Leo Schlotzer, b. Aug 1887 (through 1920 census)
   - Mary D or B Schlotzer, b. May 1891 (through 1920 census)
   - (W) Elmer J. Schlotzer, b. Apr 1893 (through 1930 census); appears to be the only one who married *and* stayed in Buffalo. In 1930 I find him married to an Ella, b. abt. 1894 with two daughters, Margery (b. 1923) and Dorothy (b. 1927).
   - Charles L or R Schlotzer, b. Dec 1894 (through 1930 census). Still single in 1930.

A possible brother for John G is:

2. Augustus M. Schlotzer, b. Dec. 1865 NY. The Mary he married was born in November 1869 (NY). I see them together as a family only in the 1900 census; he's a boilermaker ; they live at 1086 Abbott Rd. in Buffalo. I can look for Augustus' baptism in 1865. John G., above, was baptized at St. Peters. Perhaps Augustus was, too. If we can find his baptism, we can determine if he's John G's younger brother. Augustus' and Mary's children:

   - Florence Schlotzer, b. Oct 1895; orphaned in 1910; possibly living with (cousin?) W. Elmer Schlotzer in 1930.
   - Mary O. Schlotzer, b. Feb 1898; orphaned in 1910. I don't find her after this 1910 census. Might be the Olive Schlotzer, grandmother of Phil Burns who has contacted me; if so, she died around 2000.
   - Clarence Schlotzer, b. abt. 1905 (I am guessing he's part of this family; he's the other orphan in the 1910 census). I don't find him after this 1910 census-- in NY anyway.
