In his will, Jonas Meador (father of Joel), left 200 acres to his son Jesse, with a life interest in his personal estate to his wife Frances. Based on Cumberland County deeds, the balance of the 430 acres [of Jonas's Real Estate] passed, under the laws of primogeniture, to his oldest son Joel, then a resident of Bedford County, Virginia. In 1768 Joel sold 230 acres on Muddy Creek, Cumberland County, to his mother Frances. The other 200 acres, on Deep Creek (originally purchased by Jonas in 1750) was sold to Jesse. Frances sold her 230 acres to James Hudgens on 25 Dec 1700
