Obituary Jerry Wayne Boyd, Sr. Memorial services for Jerry Wayne Boyd St., 61, Tyler and Bullard, will be held at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Bullard.

Mr. Boyd died 21 Feb 2007, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born 22 Jun 1945 in Odessa, and lived in Smith County for the last nine years. He was a schoolteacher for Gladewater Independent School District and was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Body, Tyler and Bullard; sons, Jerry Wayne Boyd, Jr., Melbourne, Australia, Jason Boyd, Alvarado, and Eric Gillis, San Diego, Calif.; daughter Gretchen Thielman, Eugene, Ore.; and seven grandchildren. Published in the Tyler Morning Telegraph on 2/23/2007

Memorial Service Held for Former Resident

A memorial service was held for Jerry Wayne Boyd, Sr. at his home in Bullard, TX on Saturday March 3, 2007. He died February 21, 2007 in a Tyler, TX hospital after a short illness.

Jerry was born June 22, 1945 in Odessa, TX. He attended high school in Doniphan and then Poplar Bluff, where he played football. He was currently a high school Science teacher at Gladewater, TX. He was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors who attended the service were his wife, Sally Featherston Boyd formerly of Doniphan and Poplar Bluff. His son Jerry Boyd Jr., his wife Tina and their son from Melbourne, Australia. Jason Gillis Boyd, his wife Monique and their two daughters from Alvarado, TX, His daughter Gretchen Boyd Thielman, her husband Jared and their son and daughter from Eugene, OR. His son Maj. Eric Gillis, his wife Anona and their son and daughter from San Diego, CA.

Also in attendance were Sally’s sister Elaine Featherston Boston, her husband Larry of Folsom, LA, her brother Ron Featherston, his wife Joann from Houston, TX, Her cousin Jim Braschler, his wife Patti from Tyler, TX, Her cousin Glynda Braschler Mekonen, her two sons from Dallas, TX. Jerry’s Aunt Hallie Boyd Landry and her husband Ed from Centerville, TX, neighbors and friends.

His greatest tribute was expressed by the personal successes of his children. Marine Maj. Eric is a helicopter pilot who has seen combat duty in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq and is on the promotion list for Lt. Col this year. Jason has followed his father’s footsteps as a high school Science teacher. His daughter Gretchen operates a home for disabled persons and his son Jerry Jr. is successful in business in Australia, constructing and maintaining swimming pools over a large territory.

The service was concluded by a Scottish bagpiper playing “Amazing Grace” as all held hands.
