On page 86 of Memorials of Old Bridgehampton it says: "Jeremiah Halsey lived where his descendant, the late Oliver lived which was on the east side of Halsey's Lane. A very old house was torn down there some years ago. Personally I cannot make a positive location of the first house, though I think the records indicate the neighborhood of Paul's and Halsey Lanes." On April 2, 1706 Capt. Theophilus Howell, Elisha Howell. Lemuel Howell and Jeremiah Halsey were granted the right to build a windmill on the triangle commons in Mecox. His tombstone says: "Here lyes buried the body of Mr. Jeremiah Halsey departed this life Dec'r 29, 1737 in ye 72d year of his age." Abstract of Will from liber 13, page 303 In the name of God, Amen. I Jeremiah Halsey, of Bridge Hampton, in the Town of Southampton, in Suffolk County, being in health of body. I leave to my son Jeremiah 1/2 of my home lot, the south part, and to come to the pond for a convenient watering place, with all the bildings, and 1/3 of the orchard land at Hunttington, and 1/2 of a £50 right of comonage. I leave to my son Nathan all the north part of my home lot with the buildings, and 1/3 of the orchard land at Hunttington, and 1/2 of a £50 right of commonage. I leave to my son Elijah, my lot of land which I bought of Scott, lying on the south side of the highway by my house, bounded east an west by Thomas Sandford, north and soth by highways, And 1/3 of a Lot in the South Division No. 13, and 1/3 of Lot 5, divided with Samuel Ludlum, and 1/3 of the orchard land at Hunttington, and 2/5 of a £50 right of Commonage;Also 1/2 of my wind mill, and a loom and tackling. I leave to my wife Deborah, £20, and bed and bedding. To my two daughters, Experience and Abigail, £30. My wife and daughters are to live in the west end of my house. I make my sons executors Dated 20 December 1733. Witnesses, Henry Howell, Elihu Howell, Job Pierson. Codicil, 24 December 1737. Leaves to his wife and daughters all his wheat. To son Nathan "an acre of wheat in the woods." To son Elijah "a piece of serge and my best leather breeches, and silver shoe buckles." I leave to my wife the use of my great Bible.
