- Source:Thayer, Elisha. Family Memorial : Genealogy of Fourteen Families of the Early Settlers of New England, of the Names of Alden, Adams, Arnold, Bass,, p. 14, says "Jemima Alden the first child of John and Thankful Alden died in infancy". No date or explanation is given and no subsequent daughter named Jemima is shown. This assertion is wrong, as John Alden's will of 1782 [Suffolk probate 18034] lists Jemima Pratt as the first, presumably oldest, daughter, before Alice whose birth is recorded as 1733 (son John's birth being inbetween in 1731 is the first, or oldest, son). If the Jemima born 1729/30 had "died in infancy", there would not have been time to have another daughter Jemima before Alice, and given the marriage date in 1752, no other opportunity to fit in such a daughter. Source:Mayflower Descendant, Vol. 43, p. 25, has an article by Alicia Crane Williams on the descendants of Henry Alden and documents several errors found in this source and their propagation through various secondary sources.
