In the census of 1850, Jehu and Eliza Clenny Hall have residing in their household, John and Lucinda Hall Garrison; their son Robert, age 4; Charot , age 18 mulatto; Isaac Pyle age 8 months, mulatto; James Tabourn, age 10, mulatto.

In the name of God Amen, I Jehu Hall of the County of Alamance and State of North Carolina, being aged and infirm in body, though of sound mind and memory, thanks to the giver of all earthly blessings; calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that I cannot live much longer, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament, principally and first of all I recommend my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent manner;

Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my daughter Frances Hutchins fifty cents; Item 2nd. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Graham fifty cents; Item 3rd. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Graham fifty cents; Item 4th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret Woody fifty cents; Item 5. I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Horn Twenty five Acres of land, it being the land whereon John Horn now lives, to her and her children and not to be disposed of by sd. Horn, or to be subject to the payment of his debts, but exclusively to the use of Nancy and her children. Item 6th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Edna Garrison fifty cents; Item 7th. I give and bequeath to James Tabourn my bound boy of colour Ten Dollars on condition that he remains with me and takes care of me and my wife untill he becomes free, Item 8. I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucinda Garrison wife of John Garrison, the tract of land whereon I now live, reserving to my beloved wife her support on the premises during her natural life, My will and disire is that she remain in the family with my daughter Lucinda & John, provided she can do so in peace and contentment, but if she should leave them, in that case, she is to have a decent and comfortable support from the sd. premises during her natural life, and that my household and kitchen furnature remain for her use and benefit and at her death the same be equally divided between my two daughters Catherine Barker and Lucinda Garrison

Item 9. I give to my beloved wife Elizabeth my Negro woman Hanah, during her natural wife and after my wife's deathe that my Executor sell sell [sic] sd. woman, and also to sell at my death such portion of the stock on hand as in his Judgment can be best spared from the premises in order to pay my Just debts and also to pay the aforesaid bequests, the balance if any together with the price sd. Negro to be equally divided between my two daughters Edna and Lucinda, the balance of my Stock of every kind I give to my daughter Lucinda.

I now constitute and appoint my worthy friend Thomas Graham Executor to this my last will and Testament.

NOTES by the transcriber Alex Thompson: In his 1796 Orange County will (Will Book C-82), James Hall named wife Mary (nee Clenny), sons Levi and Jehu Hall, and several daughters. Jehu was the younger son and received James' home plantation. The 1816 Property Tax for Orange County showed Jehu Hall with 384 ac. Jordan's Creek. Jehu was born there 05 Sep 1772 and died 27 Nov 1856, per dates on his tombstone at Union Ridge Cemetery. His will is recorded in Alamance County Will Book 1 p. 105, but a microfilm of the applicable page obtained from the Family History Library is illegible.

The mother of all Jehu's children was Ann Graham, daughter of John Graham and Frances Mebane. Jehu and Ann's Orange Co. NC Marriage Bond: Ann Grimes & Jehu Hall, Bond Date: 08 Apr 1797; Bondsmen: Isaac Hall and Jonathan Clenny, Witness: Abner B Bruce. (For some reason, John Graham and his children sometimes used the last name of Grimes.)

Jehu's marriage bond with wife Elizabeth of the above will: Elizabeth McCleure & Jehu Hall, Bond Date: 13 Mar 1828; Bondsman: Jo Clendenen.

The Family Bible give dates of birth for the eight daughters mentioned in Jehu's will as: Frances 26 Jan 1800; Nancy 13 Dec 1801; Mary 18 Feb 1804 Sarah 16 Feb 1806; Margaret 08 Dec 1808; Catherine 21 Apr 1811 Edna 15 Aug 1816; Lucinda 07 Jan 1819

In addition, there was one son, William Hall born 02 Mar 1798. William was Jehu's neighbor in the 1850 Census of Alamance County North District, but his widow Harriet (nee Morton) was household head in the 1860 Census.
