Jeanne arrived in New France in 1754, and on 28 Sep 1654 made contract of marriage drawn up by notary Lambert CLOSSE; her husband-to-be could sign, she could not. On 14 Oct 1654 in Montreal she married master carpenter Pierre GODIN dit Châtillon, ceremony celebrated by Father Pierre PIJART, SJ. They had nine children, all baptized at Montéal but the 7th, Pierre (in Québec in 1667). In 1672 her husband and oldest son were tried for beating a neighbor (Pierre BOUTONNE dit La Ramée) after he allegedly slapped the 3rd child, daughter Catherine, then about age 13, whom he claimed had stolen bread from him. Jeanne also allegedly went to BOUTONNE's home with a sword, "which she passed though [sic] the stones in his wall while calling for his death." On 30 Aug 1672 BOUTONNE agreed to pay the costs of pursuing the trial.

The family immigrated to Port-Royal, Acadia between 7 Jun 1676 and 11 Jun 1677, where Pierre's experience as a carpenter was needed.
