The Beller family lived in an isolated area of the Vosges Mts. in the province of Alsace in France. The Beller home was about 30 miles from Strasbourg, with some of the closest villages being St. Die, Plaine, and Schirmeck. Because the Goat Mts. were the ones immediately surrounding it, their home was called the Geisloch, the German word meaning Goat Hole.

She [Genevieve Dilts Hall] has a picture of a hole in the ground that was his [Jacob Beller 1857-1940] home. At the Second World War the Germans used his old home as an amunition dump and the Allies blew it up but good.
