Janet B. Henderson, daughter of William Henderson, was born circa December 1883 in Thornton, Scotland.

She and her future sister-in-law Jean Muirhead Forrest sailed from Glasgow, Scotland on 17 September 1909 aboard the SS. Parisian, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts on 27 September 1909. They continued their journey to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by train. According to the ship's manifest, Janet lived in Thornton and worked as a clerkess. She was described as being 5 feet 3 inches tall, in good health with a fair complexion, brown hair, and blue eyes. On the day of their arrival in Philadelphia, 28 September 1909, Janet Henderson married William Whyte and Jean Forrest married John Mackie Whyte. Both William and John were sons of David Whyte and Ann Rumgay of Kirkcaldy, Scotland.
