Previous marriage was to a "Goins" - 1880 Census lists a stepson to Middleton - J Goins, age 20 [Goins was apparently her maiden name, not a previous marriage. See marriage record, Memorial story.--GayelKnott 00:00, 14 September 2011 (EDT)]

Jane "Jennie" Goins Meadors Birth: 1828, Campbell County, Tennessee, USA Death: 1904, Pleasant View, Whitley County, Kentucky, USA Parents: Canada Goins (1808 - ____), Rebecca Goins (1810 - 1875) Spouse: John Middleton Meadors (1812 - 1894) Children: Milton E Goins (1844 - 1926)*, John Crittenden Goins (1860 - 1939)* Burial: Steely Cemetery, Williamsburg, Whitley County, Kentucky, USA --------- Jane (Jennie) Goins had 3 children, born out of wedlock. They were Milton E. Goins b. 1844, Dolphus (Doc)Goins b. 1854 and John Crittenden (Crit)Goins b. 1860. They all went by the surname of Goins. However, through DNA testing, two of the families have learned what their surnames should have been. Milton E. would have been a Baker. John (Crit) would have been a Caudell. Needless to say, we descendents are proud to carry the Goins' name. We understand those days were times of war, torn apart by families' sons having to choose the North or South, for the bitter war. Our dear Jane "Jennie" would have been a "scorned woman", but not in our opinion. We all love you, grandmother, Jennie. If it hadn't been for you, we would never have been.
Jane was the d/o Canada Goins. The Goins' family was originally from Campbell County and Scott County, Tennessee. Jane (Jennie) lived most of her life in the Pleasant View, Whitley County, Ky. area. Times were very hard for a single woman in those years. Her oldest son, Milton E. was indentured to William Bluford White in 1853, at the age of 9. We can imagine how she had to work, in the fields and possibly working in different homes, to support her boys. Hopefully, her life was easier after she married John Middleton Meadors, a widower.
After John's death in 1894, Jane lived the remainder of her life with her son, John "Crit" Goins.
